Carl DeCaire, Pixel Pusher Extraordinaire
Meet Carl, Big Cartel’s bearded designer.
For the record, please state your name and occupation at Big Cartel.
My name is Carl William DeCaire III - I’m a designer at Big Cartel creating lovely new features, themes, and other things for everyone to enjoy.
Igloo Letterpress: In addition to selling prints and printing services, Igloo educates the community through workshops, helping keep the craft alive.
How long have you been with Big Cartel?
I started in October 2011, making this year my two year anniversary. If you’re wondering what to get me, I like chocolate cake but I’ll settle for a high five.
Candle With A Cause: Not only do some of the proceeds go to various non-profits, but the candles smell amazing, are environmentally friendly, and the recycled liquor bottles look rad.
What are some of your sources of design inspiration?
I’ve been lucky enough to surround myself with incredibly talented people. Everyone at Big Cartel, my friends, and past co-workers. There’s nothing better than getting a different perspective on a design problem and feeling inspired and refreshed. I wouldn’t be half the designer I am today without them.
Dave Tevenal: I have two of my arms dedicated to his work. Tattoos may not be for everyone, but there is no denying his artwork is awesome, so do yourself a favor and buy some art.
When you’re not engulfed in all things Big Cartel, how do you like to spend your time?
There are literally too many things to mention. On the top of that list—biking around the city (Columbus) and mountain biking in the woods, grabbing a cold beer with friends, taking photographs and watching way too many TV shows. Other past times include cooking, gardening, playing video games, skateboarding, snowboarding, volleyball, and the list goes on forever.
