Building on our summer music theme, we’re bringing you some stellar music found in some awesome Big Cartel stores. So put on your headphones to really enjoy this week’s group show.
Father/Daughter Records

Father/Daughter Records has just a handful of releases, all on vinyl, but they pack a sweet summery punch. Recommended listening is most definitely the Richard Swift produced Pure Bathing Culture 12” - it may be just four songs (download included!), but each one is more addicting than the last.
Midlake
Check out the full shop at: midlake.bigcartel.com
Midlake is a Texas band that is anything but country-western. With albums ranging from weird to weirder to weirdest - we mean that in a good way, of course - they’ve frequently drawn comparisons to Fleetwood Mac or Radiohead. But you should make up your own mind, and give ‘em a listen. While all three records are stellar, we recommend The Trials of Van Occupanther, as the best place to start.
African Tape Group
Check out the full shop at: africantapegroup.bigcartel.com
This European label ranges from sweet folk to eccentric hip hop, and just about everything in between. They boast beautiful vinyl releases, for all you collectors out there. And they also offer CDs for the LP-less. Digging through their catalog, you’ll find all sorts of gems, but we highly recommend releases from Portland, Oregon’s Alexis Gideon and/or Shelley Short.
